Bethune Skate Park, Daytona Beach, FL

Project Stats

Project Size: 15,000 sf
Architect/Engineer:: Pillar Design Studios
Owner: City of Daytona Beach, FL
Notable Project Details: Breaking Ground constructed a hybrid park made up of integrated pre-cast and poured in place concrete elements. This allowed for an aggressive construction schedule as the earthwork and site utilities could proceed while the pre-cast elements were created. Two of the skate elements are unique to this park and are not found in any other facility.

Owner requirements included streetscape and bowl designs for beginner, intermediate  and expert skaters as well as BMX bikes.  Street course design mimics city streetscapes and includes obstacles  such as rails, stairs ramps and jumps.  Scope of work included:

  • Design and Permitting
  • All necessary site work and upgrade of existing storm water system
  • Skate Plaza, sidewalks and skate elements
  • 9’ above grade skate bowl
  • Landscaping
  • Lighting
  • Infrastructure for future fiber optic connectivity to the right-of-way
  • Decorative fencing around the perimeter of the skateboard facility
  • Area for future concession facilities
